Riwo Egor
Riwo Egor is a Nigerian born singer/songwriter, vocal composer and arranger. She is the lead vocalist of the band Melafrique. Riwo is very passionate about sharing messages and personal stories through music and she enjoys doing so with the Neo-soul, R&B, Soul and Afro-Jazz styles of music. Being born into a vastly musical family, Riwo has always been surrounded by various styles of music including opera and rap-from Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton, to Lionel Ritchie and Destiny's Child, she was opportuned to hear a bit of everything. As a result, she is heavily influenced by the vocal stylings of Whitney Houston and Jennifer Hudson, as well as the songwriting style of Kirk Franklin.
Since she moved to Canada in 2015, she has performed alongside various artists, (both local and international), some of which include Titilope Sonuga, Callie Day, Arlo Maverick, K-riz, The Melisizwe Brothers, to mention a few. Riwo has performed at The Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium, The Winspear, The Starlite Room, Koi, among other venues both solo, and with her band Melafrique.
In 2018, she released her debut single You Remain The Same, as part of her winnings from the 2017 edition of Rejoice Alberta singing competition. In 2020, Melafrique band released their debut single Not Alone, which was written and co-composed by Riwo. On October 8th, 2022, she released her second single Don't Let Go, in preparation for her debut album to be released in 2023.
Riwo believes in the power of music to heal wounds, and cause people to connect with each other on so many levels. One of her biggest life goals is for her music to bring unity into the diversity of our crazy world, one song at a time.
