Our Story: Why Mental Wellness?
The Growth Center I, Inc. (TGC) was born from a deep passion to help individuals and communities understand mental health as health. When people have the language, resources, and support they need, they can thrive, heal, and grow.
Our CEO and Founder, Clara Brown, brings over 25 years of experience working with youth, young adults, families, unhoused populations, educators, and mental health professionals. Her personal and professional journey inspired a mission to dispel myths, reduce stigma, and connect communities with timely, compassionate care.
The Need Is Real
The impact of COVID-19 magnified existing challenges in our communities. Anxiety, depression, and stress surged—especially among youth who struggled to return to a sense of normalcy. Teachers, parents, and caregivers faced similar struggles, often without adequate support.
Today, many individuals wait months to receive mental health services. For BIPOC populations, long-standing disparities in healthcare, trauma exposure, and systemic barriers have only deepened the crisis.
We believe in meeting people where they are, creating spaces that are safe, informed, and centered in healing.
