This month’s Nerd Nite is bursting with BIG questions, chemistry, cosmic philosophies, and DIY 3D printing. Whether you're a stargazer, a maker, or just nerdy-curious, we’ve got something for you!
Philosophy of Astrophysics: Stars, Simulations, and the Struggle to Determine What is Out There
Astrophysics sits at the frontier between observation, theory, and imagination. In a universe we cannot touch, experiment on, or fully observe, how do we come to know what exists? This talk explores the philosophical questions at the heart of astrophysics—how we infer the properties of stars, galaxies, and the cosmos from light alone; how computer simulations shape what we consider “real”; and how uncertainty, assumptions, and creativity guide our models of the universe.

Modifying Chemistry Under Strong Coupling
Chemists use vibrational strong coupling (VSC) to make molecules interact with light trapped inside tiny mirrors. This leads to the creation of new combined states of light and matter, known as vibrational polaritons.
Presentation by Swathi, Postdoctoral Researcher at ISIS (University Of Strasbourg)
3D Printers: Why Build One? (Also: Why NOT)
Have you ever printed in 3D ? Let’s check out how 3D printers work and why you should totally build one. But also why you should absolutely not build one (spoiler : for your sanity).
