ABSTRACTHow effectively are economic sanctions implemented and enforced across the European Union? What are the institutional, practical, and legal challenges that stand in the way of their success? How can multi-stakeholder cooperation contribute to more cost-effective implementation and enforcement?This interdisciplinary workshop brings together leading scholars in law and political science, legal practitioners, data scientists, EU officials and officials from EU Member States to discuss the evolving landscape of EU sanctions implementation and enforcement. Through a series of four panels, participants will explore the EU’s current implementation framework, national and private-sector perspectives, the criminal enforcement dimension, and the role of courts in shaping sanctions implementation implementation and enforcement.Speakers include academics from the Universities of Luxembourg, Granada, Bern, Groningen, Coimbra, Burgundy, and Valencia, alongside representatives from Eurojust, the Council of the European Union, and the private sector.The event will offer a unique forum for dialogue among academics, practitioners, and policymakers – benefiting not only the University of Luxembourg’s research community but also Luxembourg’s broader legal and compliance ecosystem, as well as government officials working on sanctions-related matters. A lunch will be offered from 12:30 to 14:00 on 28 October.
