On June 20th and 21st, an assembly of students is gathering at EFI to deliberate on the question "How can we reimagine teaching, learning, and research methods to align with the advancements in AI and ethics?".

This topic was chosen following a workshop with 10 EFI students from diverse programs, organized on April 2nd. A series of events have been recently organized throughout EFI and the UoE on the use of AI in teaching and learning, questioning what the “new normal” would be for higher education in the age of AI.

This Students' Assembly is about:

gathering the students’ perspectives in defining what an ethical use of AI would be at the UoE and what principles should guide it. Although attempts have been made by the UoE to have a formal stance on the topic, it remains quite unclear how to navigate the use of AI both as a student and an academic staff.
experimenting what we preach when discussing the use of participatory governance in AI and ethics.
creating a safe space for students to share their experiences when using AI in their courses, weigh opposing viewpoints on the question, and deliberate from the perspective of various disciplines within EFI.

This SA is not about defining principles to restrict the use of AI but decluttering which AIs are more or less unethical, which are useful or detrimental to learning, teaching and conducting research, in what context and what underlying values should guide the way we govern AI at EFI.

This students' assembly on AI would be the first one in Europe.
