The ongoing Energy transition is changing rapidly the face of onshore acquisition business, with new practical questions for geosciences that require continuous innovations in terms of acquisition practices and geophysical methods.In this webinar, our 4 speakers will give you an overview of several recent onshore acquisition surveys carried out for various purposes from geothermal ernergy to CCUS monitoring and hydroelectric projects developments. Speakers: Brice Tayart (S3), Elodie Morgan (SpotLight), Maria Saade (Sxense) and Romain Granjon (CNR) Agenda Challenges of Geothermal Exploration in heavily built-up urban areasby Brice Tayart (S3)Geothermal exploration for district and industrial heating takes place where the end users of this heat are concentrated: in cities.This talk will focus on the unique challenges of acquiring seismic data in busy and heavily built-up urban areas. These include constraints on survey design and source and receiver placement, interactions with 3rd parties and social acceptability, heavy anthropic noise and vibration regulations. We will then discuss how night acquisition with autonomous nodes, single vibrators and pseudo-random signals can be a solution to some of these challenges.To illustrate the talk, two examples taken from a 3D survey in Geneva and a very recent 2D survey in Paris area wil be examined. Breaking the paradigm of image: Enabling focused onshore seismic monitoringby Elodie Morgan (Spotlight)In the realm of onshore seismic acquisition, the pursuit of superior imaging resolution and operational efficiency has been a longstanding O&G objective. However, the landscape is swiftly evolving with the energy transition. This shift calls for innovation for the seismic industry, where emphasis frugality is increasingly paramount. Can operational models tailored for an era of $80 per barrel crude oil adapt to meet the demands of this transition? When it comes to Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) surveillance, conventional approaches may fall short. As a response, we have chosen to champion a disruptive strategy: Focused seismic surveillance. In our upcoming presentation, we will delve into the intricacies of this approach, particularly its onshore implementation leveraging existing seismic equipment in a focused manner. Our discussion will encompass various facets including the environmental footprint considerations and the strategies devised to surmount geophysical and environmental challenges. 3D passive terrestrial and fluvial tomography for seismic risk assessmentby Maria Saade (Sixense) and Romain Granjon (CNR)This study aims to provide a better characterization of the subsoil for a hydroelectric development project, using high-resolution 3D imaging of the subsurface in terrestrial and fluvial environments. To address this issue, a 3D passive seismic tomography was conducted using seismic networks installed on the terrestrial surface of study areas and on the ground surface in the river. The resulting 3D shear wave velocity model allowed the identification and delimitation of the main seismic horizons (mainly the alluvial layer), the substratum depth, and the horizontal heterogeneities in the area. This allows to highlight risk zones and estimate risk levels based on the analysis of Vs (shear wave velocity) contrasts and their correlation with borehole data.
