How Can We Detect AI-Generated and AI-Modified Images?

Exploring the Possibilities and Limits of AI Detection

Tuesday, 20 October 2026 | 17:00 CEST | Online

With AI-generated and AI-modified imagery flooding the internet and becoming increasingly sophisticated, it is challenging for the visual media industry and the news and media sector to determine what is real, which parts of an image have been altered, and how.

But how reliable are today’s detection tools? What can they identify, and what are their limitations?

Join CEPIC for a webinar exploring how AI-generated and AI-modified content can be detected, with a primary focus on images.

About the webinar

Florian Barbaro, CEO of UncovAI, will share his expertise in AI detection, covering text, video and, most importantly, images.

Mete Zihnioglu, CEO of Sipa Press in France, will offer his experience and perspective as the head of an independent press agency that works with press photographs from all over the world.

We will present real case studies based on images that were shared with us prior to the online workshop.

Using these practical examples, we will explore the current possibilities and limitations of AI image detection, whether the images are fully AI-generated or have been slightly modified, cropped or retouched using Adobe software, an iPhone or other methods.

We will also consider what needs to be done to improve the effectiveness of AI detection.

We need your images!

To make the webinar as practical and relevant as possible, we are inviting webinar participants to contribute images that can be used as real-world examples during the session.

We are particularly interested in original photographs, high-resolution and compressed versions of images, Photoshop or other edits, AI-generated or AI-modified images, cropped or resized images, and examples that have undergone several different types of modification.

If you would like to contribute, please send us 2–5 images and, where possible, briefly explain what has been done to each one.

A limited number of free webinar tickets are also available to non CEPIC members who provide suitable photographs in time for inclusion in the practical workshop.

Photographs will only be used within the scope of this webinar and will be fully credited.

For image submissions and further information, please contact s.fodor@cepic.org.
