Filmmaker and Fellow Payal Kapadia presents her film All We Imagine as Light (2024). The first Indian feature in the Cannes Competition after a thirty-year absence. It won the Grand Prix at Cannes and has continued its remarkable run to the 2025 Golden Globes (with nominations for Best Director and Best Foreign Language Film), as well as numerous other awards, including the Best Film Prize at the 2025 Asian Film Awards in Hong Kong. The screening will be followed by a discussion with Payal Kapadia and members of the film’s crew.
All We Imagine as Light
Nurse Prabha’s daily life in Mumbai takes an unexpected turn when a surprise gift arrives from her estranged husband. Her younger roommate, Anu, meanwhile faces mounting frustration in her search for a private place in the city to be intimate with her partner.
Payal Kapadia, currently a Fellow at the Columbia Institute for Ideas and Imagination, is a filmmaker from Mumbai, India. Trained at the Film and Television Institute of India, she has directed a non-fiction film A Night of Knowing Nothing which premiered at the Director's Fortnight section in Cannes in 2021 where it won the Golden Eye Documentary Award.
This event will take place in Reid Hall’s Grande Salle Ginsberg-LeClerc, built in 1912 and extensively renovated in 2023 thanks to the generous support of Judith Ginsberg and Paul LeClerc.
