W. Gordon Belser Arboretum of the University of South Carolina is a 10-acre wildlife preserve surrounded by the Sherwood Forest neighborhood in central Columbia.Our Mission:Maintain a wildlife preserve within metropolitan Columbia;Serve as an outdoor field laboratory and lecture site for students at the University of South Carolina;Function as a conservation outreach center for visitors.We are open for visitors at a monthly Open House, always the 3rd Sunday of the month from 1 - 4 p.m. A guest speaker presents quarterly on topics related to conservation, botany, ecology, and sustainability.Also open Wednesday and Saturday mornings for walkers and volunteers 10 a.m. - noon, Thursdays 4 - 7 p.m. (hours change in winter to 3-dusk)Weather and work schedules can change these hours.Sign up for the monthly newsletter here.
