Mycologie Department, Institut Pasteur (Alexandre Alanio/Françoise Dromer/Christophe D'Enfert)

The Mycology Department gathers the Institut Pasteur’s research groups studying human fungal pathogens. The main aim of the Mycology Department is better understand the biology of fungal pathogens and the physiopathology and immunology of their infections in order to develop novel diagnostic, preventive and therapeutic approaches. Units in the Department use both clinically relevant pathogens and model organisms to elucidate key aspects of the cellular biology of fungal pathogens.

Research groups in the Mycology Department are interested in the epidemiology of fungal infections; the genomic diversity of fungal pathogens; the characterization of virulence factors and the regulation of their expression; the biogenesis of the fungal cell wall, its involvement in virulence and how it can be targeted by antifungals; the formation of single and mixed-species biofilms; and the physiopathology and immunology of fungal infections
