What Qualifies as a Live Event? (In-Person & Online Standards)
To list an event on Eventbrite, your experience must meet our live hosting standards, whether taking place in a physical venue or virtually:
In-Person Event Standards
An On-Site Host Present: An organizer, instructor, performer, or staff representative must be physically present at the venue to welcome attendees, verify tickets, and facilitate the event.
A Dedicated Physical Venue: Your event must take place at a specific, reserved location (e.g., a conference center, studio, theater, restaurant, or reserved park facility). Unreserved public sidewalks, street corners, or generic city centers do not qualify as in-person event venues.
Live, Synchronous Experience: In-person events must bring attendees together at a scheduled date and time. Self-paced or "do anytime" activities should not be scheduled as live in-person gatherings.
Self-Guided Activities, App Downloads & Unhosted Products
Eventbrite is a marketplace dedicated to live, organized gatherings. Activities that are self-paced, completed independently via an external mobile app or downloadable PDF, or operate without dedicated on-site event staff do not qualify as in-person events. Listings whose primary function is to distribute access to an unhosted app or self-guided activity across public spaces are not permitted as in-person listings and are subject to removal under our Event Format Standards.
Online & Virtual Event Standards
Live, Real-Time Delivery: An online event must feature a live presenter, instructor, or facilitator streaming in real time (via any video conferencing tools or an integrated streaming platform).
No Static Downloads or Pre-Recorded Videos as "Live" Events: Selling access to an asynchronous eBook, pre-recorded video, or on-demand course under the guise of arbitrary scheduled dates is prohibited. Listings must provide an active, synchronous session.
No Regional Search Flooding for Virtual Events: Because online events are accessible everywhere, they must be published once under the Online format. Creating dozens of duplicate online listings, each tagged with a different physical city name, to manipulate local search feeds violates our discovery guidelines.
Streamlining Repeating Schedules with Recurring Events
If you host an experience that spans multiple dates or times—such as a weekly comedy show, daily walking tour, or recurring art class—you do not need to create dozens of separate event listings.
In fact, creating multiple identical listings can confuse attendees and clutter local search feeds. Instead, we strongly recommend using our Recurring Events Feature:
One Page, Multiple Dates: Attendees can visit a single, clean event page and select their preferred date and time slot from an easy-to-use drop-down calendar.
Unified Reviews & SEO: All of your attendee engagement, bookmarks, and traffic are concentrated on a single high-ranking page rather than dispersed across dozens of fragmented listings.
Simpler Management: Update your event description, venue instructions, or ticket pricing once, and have it automatically apply across all upcoming dates.
Understanding Active Listing Capacity
To protect local discovery feeds from saturation and ensure fair visibility for all organizers, Eventbrite maintains active publishing guidelines across organizer accounts.
How It Works
Organizer accounts have a standard allowance for active, published events that can be live on the marketplace simultaneously.
This capacity does not limit how many events you can host throughout the year—it simply encourages organizers to curate a focused, active schedule.
As upcoming events conclude or past drafts are unpublished, new slots automatically open in your dashboard.
Best Practices to Maintain Account Capacity:
Archive Inactive Dates: Regularly review your dashboard to unpublish completed events, outdated drafts, or canceled sessions.
Focus on High-Engagement Programming: Organizers who demonstrate consistent attendee demand and verified hosting logistics can qualify for expanded portfolio capacity as their programming grows.
External Links, Apps & Promotional Listings
Eventbrite listings must exist for the sole purpose of registering for and attending a genuine live experience.
Permitted (In-Event Digital Tools): Digital tools used on-site to facilitate a live, hosted event (such as audience Q&A apps, digital auction bidding, or live trivia buzzers) are permitted, provided a physical host or event team is present to manage the gathering.
Prohibited (App Funneling & Off-Platform Redirection):
Product-Front & App-Download Listings: Creating event listings whose primary purpose is to distribute, sell, or promote downloads of an external mobile app, digital subscription, or software tool is strictly prohibited.
Off-Platform Ticketing: Directing attendees to complete registration, process payments, or purchase tickets on third-party websites or external payment gateways is not allowed.
Promotional "Billboard" Listings: Using listings solely to advertise external services, commercial funnels, affiliate links, or invite-only chat groups (e.g., WhatsApp, Telegram) without a hosted event on-site will result in immediate removal under our Advertising and Misrepresentation standards.
