Event description
ON-LOCATION VIRTUAL TOUR Sainte Mère Eglise and the US Airborne

About this Event

Sainte Mère Eglise, the town, the monuments and the church.

"...today we brought a bit of Normandy to my dad and father-in-law - Patrick led a private, interactive tour streamed right to our TV. He even climbed the bluffs of Omaha Beach- just like being there! Thank you Patrick..." - TripAdvisor review

An on-location virtual tour** of the first town to be liberated by the US Army on D-Day. We will see the mannequin of Private John Steele still hanging from his parachute lines from the church bell tower, the original water pump used by the enemy soldiers and the townsfolk on the night of June 6th 1944, and the bullet holes still visible from the exchange of fire. The medieval church of the Holy Mother is included in the tour, as are the fabulous stained-glass windows that pay homage to the paratroopers of the 505th regiment of the 82nd Airborne Division. It's an amazing place and an enthralling story.

This tour is also available to attendees wishing to participate in person. The meeting point is outside the Aiborne Museum, 14 rue Eisenhower 50480 Sainte-Mère-Eglise, France.

Using the latest livestreaming mobile technology, Patrick Hilyer's on-location virtual tours bring the sights and sounds of the D-Day battlefields and beaches right to your living room, den or office - on your tablet, computer, laptop, smart phone or TV screen. The tours are interactive - you can ask questions by chat message during the tour and by voice during the LIVE ZOOM debriefing*.

Patrick is an experienced D-Day tour guide, a member of the Normandy Battlefield Tour Guides Association. He and his wife run the travel consultancy We Love Normandy and both have worked in Tourism and Hospitality in Normandy since 2003. Facebook page www.facebook.com/welovenormandy

  • ZOOM conferencing*
  • Tours are given in English
  • Price promise - if you find an equivalent tour cheaper elsewhere we'll refund the difference

* The Zoom debriefing is open exclusively to participants of the LIVE on-location tour. The LIVE tour itself does NOT take place on ZOOM – please follow the simple instructions for access to the LIVE on-location tour.

** On-location tours are broadcast direct from the beaches and battlefields of Normandy. In case of bad weather (heavy rain or high winds) the tour may have to be postponed. Remember, General Eisenhower, the supreme commander of the allied forces, had to delay D-Day by 24 hours in June 1944 – it happens! If this occurs, you will be notified before the start of the tour. If you are unavailable to view the rescheduled tour, you can receive a credit for another tour or a refund via PayPal.
