Event description

Description

The De Havilland Company was founded in 1909 by Sir Geoffrey De Havilland, considered as one of the top five aircraft designers in the world. The « Dragon Rapide » was the only twin-engined biplane, and remains today one of the rarest and most legendary collectible aircraft ever: it symbolises the alliance of the performance and elegance, with timeless lines & wings. Nearly 200 "Dragon Rapides" were built for the civilian market and more than 500 for the RAF during the 2nd World War.

The aircraft belonging to the "Amicale Jean-Baptiste Salis" (AJBS), based at l’Aérodrome de Cerny La Ferté Alais, was built in 1940 and has seen a varied career from military transport, civil transport and sky diving platform. She even competed in the 1981 Paris – New York Air Race, winning 1st prize for Elegance. She is now in need of restoration and AJBS has launched a 5 year plan extending from 2017 to 2022.

Fabrice Mouton of AJBS will talk to us about this wonderful aircraft’s past – and also its future.

The event is open to all.
