Textiles are everywhere! In our clothing, furniture, toys and even computers! Did you know that textile seam sewing is almost always done by hand? What is the difference between viscose and lyocell? Why are the virtues of organic cotton more and more debated? A large percentage of our clothing donated ends up in open landfills in the Global South?
This interactive game workshop, comprised of various mini games, focuses on clothing but applies to all textiles and illustrates the complexities and impacts (social and ecological) of the textile industry. After getting the big picture, you will then work together to find solutions and take home actions of your own.
This workshop is inspired by the pedogogy of the Climate Fresk (a card game and interactive workshop that teaches the IPCC report). Plus has some new twists! Experience this unique way of learning, if you are new to the Climate Fresk universe of workshops. Launched in 2021, the game has been enjoyed by over 200 participants.
You will learn:
1. Textile Materials 101 - What should I choose!?!
2. Production chain from cradle to grave and the limits of the current system, including those of recycling
3. Textile industry impacts covering various planetary and social limits
4. Enhance your critical thinking including avoiding greenwashing or fashion bashing
5. Notions of circular economy, systems view thinking and human centered solutions
6. Actions that can be taken on a collective, business and individual level
All while working together and having fun!
Our main sources: Ellen MacArthur Foundation, Preferred Textiles Report, OXFAM, Fashion Revolution and ADEME.
