South Pigalle, or SoPi for short, has become hip over the last ten years, however, few know about its titillating past.
In the early 19th century, then called La Nouvelle Athènes, the district became the bohemian hub of the city. It was instantly the most popular area for artists, musicians, writers, and politicians of the Romantic Era. It was also where you could find “Lorettes”… young kept women, the birth of the area’s naughtiness.
As we climb the hill, we will explore how the oh la la nature of the area rose throughout the century, reaching a climax in the Belle Epoque, when cafés and cabarets exploded. We’ll discuss the area’s decline through the 20th century and then its recent revival as one of the top nightlife centers of the city. The tour ends just in time for you to have a cocktail at one of the area's cool bars.
Note: this tour is for a minimum of 2 people and a maximum of 6. If you are a single traveler, you can book and wait to see if we get any further participants by 4 days before the date, or at that time decide if you would like to purchase a second ticket for the tour to go ahead.
