International arbitration was designed as a dispute settlement mechanism that would provide a neutral venue for the resolution of commercial disputes and ensure the autonomy of the parties to tailor the process to the particular circumstances of the dispute. It was also designed as a less expensive and faster process that would lead to the final resolution of the dispute.
