Reassessing 50 Years of EU External Relations Case Law

(Seminar and Book Launch, with guest speaker, CJEU Vice-President Lars Bay Larsen)

Co-organised by Aarhus University and the University of Groningen.

Kindly supported by the Aarhus University Research Foundation (Aarhus Universitets Forskningsfond) (AUFF), the Jean Monnet Network on the European Union in International Diplomatic Relations (EUDIPLO), and the Carlsberg Foundation (Carlsbergfondet).

About:

A seminar reassessing the role of the Court of Justice of the European Union in developing the external relations of the European Union through its case law. The afternoon is divided into two panels - the emergence and themes of EU external relations law, and, current issues of EU external relations law - featuring some of the leading academics and researchers in the field.

After the two panels will be a short book launch to mark the publication of EU External Relations Law: The Cases in Context (Oxford: Hart Publishing/Bloomsbury, 2022), edited by Graham Butler and Ramses A. Wessel, which includes contributions from all the speakers from the seminar. The guest speaker to launch the book is Lars Bay Larsen, Vice-President and Judge, Court of Justice of the European Union.
