About this event

Community • City & Town

Making new friends abroad doesn’t happen by accident.

When you move to a new city, you leave behind your circle, your routines, and your support system.

That’s why we created Next Locals: a regular meetup in Nice designed to help you build real friendships with people who get it.

Every Friday, we bring together internationals living abroad for drinks, laughs, and conversations that actually matter.

No name tags. No awkward intros. Just people who intentionally show up for the same reason you do: connection and belonging.

Whether you’ve just arrived or you’ve been here for years, you’ll walk away from this meetup with new friends and a sense of home.

One evening is all it takes to feel like you belong in Nice.

What to expect from your first Next Locals meetup

On arrival, you’ll be welcomed by your local community leader, Scott Holford, who makes sure everyone feels included from the start.

No standing around, no awkward moments wondering who to talk to.

Our meetups are small enough for real conversations (usually 10–25 people) but big enough for variety.

You can easily join conversations, switch groups, and actually get to know people.

No cliques. No name tags. No boring presentations. Just friendly people, good vibes, and real connection.

Everyone comes with the same purpose: to meet new friends, share stories, and feel home in Nice.

That’s how you go from being abroad to becoming the next local in town.

How it works

  • Next Locals hosts weekly meetups for people living abroad in cities around the world.
  • Try your first meetup for free by signing up for the free trial here: https://nextlocals.com
  • Registration closes at 1pm on the day of the meetup
  • Venue details are shared at 2pm by email (only with registered attendees)
  • Groups are balanced based on interest, mindset and age
  • Consumption is not included

Where do we meet?

The address on Eventbrite is a placeholder to indicate the city.

The full address and venue details are shared on the day of the meetup at 2pm via email if you registered!

We don’t share venue details publicly because:

  • We want to create a safe, intentional space. Not a random drop-in group of strangers.
  • The venue is chosen based on the size and mix of the group.
  • We confirm numbers in advance to make sure the space fits.
  • This way, everyone you meet is registered and there for the same reason: to connect.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a host?

Yes! Each city is led by an official Next Locals community leader. They live abroad, represent our values, love bringing people together, and will make you feel welcomed on arrival. For Nice, that’s Scott Holford

Why aren’t you listing the venue details?

We don’t share the venue publicly because we want to keep the meetups intentional and safe for everyone. Once you RSVP, we’ll know who’s coming and can balance the group to connect you with the right people. This helps us avoid random drop-ins and keeps the vibe open and friendly.

Can I have a free trial?

Yes! On our website you can sign up for a free trial and attend this meetup for free. Here's the link: https://nextlocals.com

Are drinks included in the price?

Consumption is paid separately at the venue. But don’t worry, we partner with our favourite places. You get the full experience without breaking the bank. Think trendy spots locals love, not overpriced tourist traps.

What language are the meetups in?

It depends on the group. But most meetups are in English, since it’s the most universal language among internationals. You don’t need to be perfect, just open-minded. What matters most is showing up as yourself.

Is this a business networking event?

Nope. No suits. No sales pitches. Just a relaxed atmosphere, drinks, and real talk with people who’ve moved abroad and want more out of life. Business will naturally come up because it’s a big part of your life, and part of who you are. It’s just not the focus of this meetup :)

Why is there a membership fee?

Because this isn’t random or rushed. Your membership covers the hosting, the matching, the planning, and the experience. It’s the difference between another awkward night and a real connection. First meetup is free during your free trial so you can see for yourself.

What if I don’t fit in?

You’re not alone, everyone feels that way at first. But that’s exactly why we exist. The group are balanced, the vibe is relaxed, and people come open-minded. You’ll be surprised how fast it clicks.

Is it only in my city?

You can go to any meetup in any city we operate!

Do I need to go every week?

Of course not, you can attend all meetups in any city. Sometimes you might want to make friends in other cities, or skip a few meetups. All is good!

Can I bring a friend?

We love that but each person needs their own membership. It keeps the experience intentional and personal. If your friend signs up, we’ll do our best to seat you together next time.

Who is this for?

Next Locals is for anyone who moved abroad and wants to meet friendly, like-minded people who just get it to finally at home.

Where do we exactly meet?

Registration closes at 1pm and we will send you the venue details at 2pm on the day of the meetup. But only to registered attendees, with an active Next Locals membership (or those who have booked a one-time access pass. In that email you will find everything you need!

What if it's not for me?

That’s totally okay. You start with a free trial. No charge, no commitment. Cancel anytime. Here's the link: https://nextlocals.com

Do I need to be a member to attend for free?

Yes. Next Locals is a members-only community. It keeps the vibe consistent and the experience safe and intentional. Your first meetup is free when you start your free trial: https://nextlocals.com

Can I just buy a one-time ticket?

Yes, for this meetup you can book a "One-time access pass" as a non-member. It’s a simple way to try Next Locals before deciding if the membership is right for you. If you like it, you can start your free trial and unlock free access to weekly meetups in cities all over the world.
