About the book and about General Louis Dio
While General Leclerc’s WWII epic has been widely chronicled, little exists on his closest companions. This book fills that gap by spotlighting General Dio and the Free French soldiers fighting under Leclerc’s command. General Dio was one of the most accomplished, yet least known amongst Leclerc's contemporaries. At just 37, he became the youngest French general of the 20th century, but, ever humble and discreet, he left no memoirs, and his pivotal role has faded from memory. Based on archives and eyewitness accounts, this translated work restores General Dio to his rightful place in history, while offering Anglophone readers a vivid account of the Free French under Leclerc’s command.
