Living With... The Broken

How do we live with what has been damaged: physically, socially, symbolically?

From the visible scars of war to the invisible ruptures caused by environmental collapse, this conference explores how architecture, art, and civic engagement can serve as powerful tools for repair and resilience.

Held on Friday, August 29 at 5:30 PM at Palazzo Zorzi in Venice, the session will be moderated by Madeleine Houbart, Secretary General of AFEX, with Martin Duplantier as Associate Curator of the French Pavilion.

Bringing together voices from Ukraine, Lebanon, France, and beyond, the discussion will ask how we might rebuild not only cities, but also shared futures, through urban recovery, renewed social trust, cultural continuity, and responses to systemic risk.

Drawing on case studies from Kharkiv to Beirut, we’ll reflect on the vital roles civic institutions, artists, and architects play in honoring memory while navigating the complex process of healing in times of disruption.
