Event description

Description

The COST Action EnGagE organizes a workshop in Paris entitled « the Principles of Psychiatric Genetic Testing & Counselling » on April 11-12th.

The last decade has witnessed major advances in psychiatric genetics. Research have received wide media coverage and awareness among patients and their family members leading to an increased demand for high-quality information on psychiatric genetics. However, development of the psychiatric testing and counseling in Europe is heterogeneous and a framework to facilitate the implementation of both disciplines into routine clinical care is lacking. The COST Action EnGagE aimed to strengthen pan-European research into the newly emerging disciplines of Psychiatric Genetic Counselling and Psychiatric Genetic Testing.

This first workshop of the Action aims to bring together child and adult psychiatrists, psychologists, clinical geneticists, genetic counselors, and students from all over Europe to develop a shared culture. The two days will be split in four sections :

  • Thursday morning: “Presentation of the French initiatives in psychiatric genetics and introduction to psychiatric disorders”
  • Thursday afternoon: “Introduction to genetic counseling”
  • Friday morning: “Introduction to genetic testing”
  • Friday afternoon: “Patient perspectives”

Lunch and coffee breaks will be offered.

A call for poster presentation is opened. If interested, please send an email to boris.chaumette@inserm.fr

Organisation committee: Dr. Boris Chaumette, Pr. David Cohen, Dr. Franziska Degenhardt, Pr. Marie-Odile Krebs, Dr. Claudine Laurent-Levinson
