E-mobility and circularity: a win-win for Europe's competitiveness?

By The Platform for electromobility

Overview

How EVs and their batteries can drive recyclability, innovation, and strategic autonomy ahead of the upcoming Circular Economy Act.

This public conference will explore the strategic role of electric mobility in Europe’s transition to a circular economy. With the Circular Economy Act expected to redefine sustainability requirements for vehicles, now is the time to highlight the unique recyclability potential of electric vehicles and their batteries compared to conventional technologies.

Bringing together Members of the European Parliament, industry leaders and researchers, the event will discuss how the right regulatory framework can turn end-of-life electric vehicles and batteries into a strategic asset for European competitiveness, innovation, and green jobs.

While the Act is expected in 2026, this early exchange—taking place shortly after the Commission's public consultation—offers a timely opportunity to shape the future agenda and ensure that Europe’s electromobility ecosystem plays a central role in upcoming circular economy policies.

Discussions will also touch on the potential of existing legislation—including the End-of-Life Vehicles Regulation (ELVR), Batteries Regulation and Waste Shipment Regulation—to unlock circular value chains and strengthen Europe’s industrial autonomy.
