This session features The Battle of Algiers (1966) tells the story of Algeria’s fight for independence, centering on life in the Casbah and the rise of grassroots resistance. The film highlights the resilience of ordinary people caught in the push for freedom from colonial rule.

While it was not officially censored in France, the general public and all cinemas boycotted it. It was seen as anti-French propaganda.
