Who is Viktor Szatmári

Viktor Szatmári was born and grew up in Hungary. He studied veterinary medicine at the University of Veterinary Science in Budapest, Hungary. He got his DVM degree in 1995. Thereafter he worked as a clinician and researcher at the Small Animal Clinic of the Department & Clinic of Internal Medicine of the same University focusing on diagnostic ultrasonography. In 1999 he moved to the Netherlands, where he was working at the Division of Diagnostic Imaging of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Utrecht University. In 2004 he defended his PhD thesis in Utrecht with the title Ultrasonography of portosystemic shunting in dogs; Doppler studies before, during and after surgery. Between 2003 and 2006 he followed a residency training program in Small Animal Cardiology of the European College of Internal Medicine – Companion Animals (ECVIM-CA) at the Department of Clinical Sciences of Companion Animals of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Utrecht University. In 2007 he became a Diplomate of the ECVIM-CA (Cardiology) and Faculty Staff Member and the Head of the Cardiology Service at the Department of Clinical Sciences of Companion Animals, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Utrecht University. Since 2008 he has been program director and resident advisor of the EBVS® recognized ECVIM-CA (Cardiology) residency training program at the same institution. Besides training specialists, he is also involved in teaching of veterinary students at the Utrecht University and post-academic education of veterinarians all over the world. His clinical activities consist of twice weekly receiving days for dogs and cats with cardio-pulmonary disorders and performing minimal invasive catheter interventions (such as PDA embolization, balloon valvuloplasty, pacemaker implantation) and bronchoscopy on a weekly bases.
