About the speakers
Dr. Diogo Gomes is a Professor at the University of Aveiro and a Researcher at Instituto de Telecomunicações. He has been involved in various EU projects since 2003, most relevant: Daidalos (1 and 2), C-CAST and 5GinFIRE, currently he’s the project coordinator of ICT-41 project 5GASP. His research interests include Applications and Services development, applied AI/ML to IoT and Telecom Scenarios and Experimentation Platforms. He his a strong Open Source Advocate and was one of the founders of the University Linux User Group and has personally contributed to several OSS projects such Home Assistant. He's a passionate Hacker and Maker.
Dr. Christos Tranoris is a Senior Researcher, at the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department of University of Patras He has significant experience in the development of experimentation infrastructures and tools, in the domains of Future Internet and 5G and he serves as technical coordinator of 5GASP.
Jorge Gallego-Madrid is a full-time Researcher at the University of Murcia. He received the BSc degree in Computer Engineering and the MSc on New Technologies in Computer Science from the same university in 2018 and 2019, respectively, where he is also a predoctoral researcher at Department of Information and Communication Engineering under the Fundación Séneca–Agencia de Ciencia y Tecnología de la Región de Murcia FPI Grant, in collaboration with Odin Solutions S.L. He has participated in international projects such as 5GASP, 5G-MOBIX or USE-IT: CHISTERA, and in national projects such as SCOOTER. His research interests include Internet of Things, intelligent transportation systems, 5G and network slicing techniques.
Dr. Alexandros Kaloxylos is the Executive Director of the 5G IA. He received the Ph.D. degree in informatics and telecommunications from the University of Athens in 1999. Since 1994, he has been participating, as a researcher, in numerous projects realized in the context of EU Programmes and national initiatives. In 2002, he joined the faculty of the University of Peloponnese, where he is currently an Associate Professor with the Department of Informatics and Telecommunications. From 2014 to 2017, he worked as a Principal Researcher in Huawei’s European Research Center, Munich, where he led the Radio Access Network Team in the design of 5G networks. In 2016, he was the Vice-Chair of the 5G PPP Architecture WG. He has published more than 130 articles in international journals, conferences and book chapters. He has filed several patents for topics related to 5G networks.(Based on document published on 7 January 2020).
Cristian Pațachia is the Development & Innovation Manager of Orange Romania. With more than 20 years’ experience in the telecom industry, he has expertise in a broad range of technologies, product development and innovation management. At the moment, as part of the Engineering department, coordinating multiple research projects in various fields such as: 5G & networks of the future, cyber security, smart cities, APIs exposure and monetizing, cloud technologies & IoT/M2M.
Sven van der Meer is the Lead Architect, Distributed Systems at VMware. He is a lecturer, scientist, researcher, software engineer, and consultant with a Dipl.-Inform. (M.Sc., 1996) and a Dr.-Ing. (PhD, 2002) from the Berlin Institute of Technology (TUB). He worked in TUB, Fraunhofer FOKUS, Waterford Institute of Technology, and most recently the Ericsson Network Management Lab, where he introduced autonomic management, closed control loops, and policy-based management to the Ericsson OSS products. Sven led and contributed to over 20 German, Irish, and European projects. He co-authored more than 100 peer-reviewed publications and five patents, and contributed to standards (OMG, TM Forum, ISO, 3GPP, IEEE, IETF) and FOSS (namely APEX in ONAP). Sven is an active member of IEEE CNOM (TPCs and OCs for IM, NOMS, CNSM). He also supervised more than 50 M.Sc. and PhD students. Sven’s main research interest are autonomic management, automation of network operations, and recursive network architectures.
Dr. Roman Odarchenko is a Senior Researcher, at Bundleslab KFT (Budapest, Hungary). He has significant experience in the domains of Future Internet and 5G. He worked and continues working on different 5GPPP projects (5G-Xcast, 5G-TOURS, 5GASP). He contributed to the testing and validation of different 5G use cases in Multimedia, Automotive, PPDR, etc.
