"2025: What Do Museums Founded at the Start of the 21st Century’s Second Quarter Look Like?"
In November 2025, ICOM will hold its 27th General Conference in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, on the theme "The Future of Museums in Rapidly Changing Communities".
A large number of museums are opening worldwide. At the same time, as we enter the second quarter of the century, the world faces significant challenges: climate and health crises, wars and conflicts, technological innovations and divides. Museums are determined to be active players in sustainable development, meaning fostering sustainable ways of living together.
During this general conference, ICOM Europe aims to dedicate time to identifying the different professional approaches practised across various world regions. As a Regional Alliance of ICOM, regional challenges and the NGO’s structure to address them are strategic issues. ICOFOM recently proposed to ICOM Europe to open the debates and launch a study aimed at capturing the uniqueness of emerging museums, not only in this region but across diverse cultural contexts worldwide, to enable a comparison of international situations. Holding these debates at the Louvre Abu Dhabi, in cooperation with ICOM France, is particularly relevant as the museum serves as a cultural bridge.
The workshop will be held:
- In the Auditorium of the Louvre Abu Dhabi
- On digital plateform
