Organizer of Classes at Feather Leaf Inn
About our event location:The Feather Leaf Inn was built as Estate Butler Bay in 1760 and is listed on the National Registry of Historic Places. We steward these historic buildings and 19 acres of coastline, heritage trees, and our fledgling food forest. The history of Estate Butler Bay is the history of slavery in the Caribbean. Under Danish colonial rule, many thousands of people were stolen from Africa and forced to work under horrific conditions at this plantation growing sugar cane and making rum. From 1760 to 2017 Estate Butler Bay was a private estate. Restoration and transformation began in 2018 and today it is open as the Feather Leaf Inn with the intention to provide a place to learn and grow. The Feather Leaf Inn hosts wellness retreats like Trauma Informed Yoga, Relax and Rejuvenate: A Nervous System Regulation Retreat for Stress, and Breast Cancer Survivors as well as educational groups such as Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute grad students and Sea Education Association. We also welcome travelers looking for a unique travel experience. And we host local groups like the Twigs Ministry Precious Gems and the St. Croix Educational Complex Eco Club. Our belief, as stewards, is that this space should be shared. We want to learn from history and empower people as we work together towards a healthier and more equitable world.Eco-tourism, when it works, benefits the place it is in because your dollars are reinvested in social and ecological projects. You help sustain and improve opportunities for a thriving island. Eco-tourism is also your opportunity to learn about ways all of us can live sustainably. We are investing revenue to bolster the local forests and reefs by planting trees as well as growing corals. In 2023 were awarded a grant with local partners to work on coral restoration right in front of the property. Come visit us to learn more.
